Environmental Camp Pictures







This Week in 5th Grade (5/27-5/30)

The days of school are quickly running out! This is a short week, but a busy one none the less!

Math: We will be learning about dividing decimals by tens, hundreds, and thousands.

Science: We will be continuing our in school projects on Pond Life. Students will be researching, creating a powerpoint like presentation using Emaze, and creating an art project.

Social Studies: Students will be completing their Social Studies web quests, and begin working on their Civil War projects. Student's have copies of the Social Studies project on their drives.

Writing: We will be working on prompts from our experiences at Environmental Camp last week.

Reminders:
The Isles of Shoals Trip is next Tuesday!
Students will need to be at school by 7AM and will return by 3:15PM.
Students will NOT be allowed to wear flip flops or sandals.
Students will need to pack their own lunch and snack in a disposable bag. All lunch supplies will be thrown out after lunch, so do not pack anything you want returned. Please do not pack soda's for lunch drinks, or drinks in glass bottles.

Ready for camp?

We leave for camp tomorrow! Please remember to drop your student off at school, as they cannot carry their luggage on the bus. We will depart around 9:00 am for camp and will be returning by dismissal on Friday. Please remember that you will need to pick your student up on Friday as well. 

We are looking forward to a great trip! See you all in the morning!

Week of 5/12-5/16

This week in fifth grade:
Math: We will be learning how to multiply decimals, as well as, work with decimals in word problems.
Science: We are diving into Pond Life as our new science unit. Visting Camp Coniston will help us learn even more about this topic.
Social Studies: We are continuing to explore the reasons leading up to the Civil War.
Writing: We are talking about figurative language and writing letters to our future teachers next year.
Reading: Students are taking the district reading test this week, while still enjoying some silent reading time.

Weekly Reminders:
Permission slips are still needed for Environmental Camp and the Isle of Shoals trip.
Scholastic Book Orders went home today. It's a perfect place to stock up on summer reading books! 
Camp Coniston is next week! Please let us know if you have any concerns about the trip! We are very much looking forward to this great experience for the kids! 
On Friday, Ms.Connor's class will be going with Mrs.Palin to the Warner Library.

Weekend Reminders


We are still looking for permission slips from many students. We need both the permission slips for the Isle of Shoals and the permission slips for Environmental Camp.
If you need help gathering any of the items on the packing list for Environmental Camp, please do not hesitate to ask.

Trip to the vernal pool

As part of our new science unit on pond life, we took a walk up to the vernal pool. The kids loved the fresh air and all the frogs and snakes!

Big Dates This Week:
Tuesday: Science Test on the water cycle and clouds.
Wednesday: Step-up day at the Middle School

What we are working on this week:

Math: We will be finishing up working on algebraic expressions and moving on to working with decimals.

Science: We will be finishing up our unit on the water cycle and cloud formation. Next week we will start in on pond life.

Social Studies: This week we are discovering the conditions that lead to the beginning of the Civil War.

Writing: We are working on completing our review of the Lowell Mills field trip. If you would like to see what your child is writing, ask them to show you their Google Drive!

Reading: We are working on vocabulary and comprehension from the books The Treasure Chest and Bread and Roses, Too.
